On the bottom of page three is a mention that the Army is calling up Harry Ice, former University of Missouri all-conference quarterback and MVP of the 1942 Sugar Bowl. Ice is commissioned an infantry officer, serving in the South Pacific… Also on page three, the Washington Senator’s Buddy Lewis has passed his flight physical and may get his wish of becoming a pilot… Page four has a story on how Robert C. “Moose” Moss, a pilot with the American Volunteer Group (the “Flying Tigers”), who evaded the Japanese after bailing out of his aircraft… Benjamin O. Davis Jr. and the Tuskegee Airmen are featured on page eight… Sports section begins on page 21, which features former heavyweight boxing champion Gene “The Fighting Marine” Tunney bringing several former football players into the Naval Reserve as physical fitness instructors
