The Pan American Airways Boeing 314 was preparing to land at Auckland, New Zealand when the crew learned that Pearl Harbor had been attacked and their route back to the United States is now blocked. Instead, Capt. Robert Ford had to fly west: 31,500 miles in 209 hours…
Page five reports that U.S. pilots flying for the American Volunteer Group — “The Flying Tigers” — are paid $600 a month and earn $500 per aerial victory. That’s not hay: adjusting for inflation, Tigers are earning just shy of $11,000 a month base pay in 2022 dollars… Sports section begins on page 14
