William T. Clement’s Navy Cross citation

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to

William T. Clement

Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

for distinguished service in the line of his profession as Marine Officer on the staff of the Commander in Chief, United States Asiatic Fleet between 7 December 1941 and 28 April 1942. Colonel Clement was invaluable in liaison work between the Commandant, SIXTEENTH Naval District, the Commanding General, United States Armed Forces in the Far East, and particularly with forces engaged on Bataan Peninsula. Although quartered at Corregidor, he spent much of his time on the Bataan Peninsula, and frequently facilitated operations by his suggestions and by his handling of some of the diversified units engaged. Colonel Clement contributed very materially to this campaign.
