William L. Anderson’s Navy Cross citation

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the NAVY CROSS to

William L. Anderson

Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

for extraordinary heroism and distinguished service in the line of his profession as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. THRESHER (SS-200), during the SECOND War Patrol of that submarine from 30 December 1941 to 26 February 1942, and for his participation 1 February 1942 in the attack on the Marshall Islands. His outstanding courage and determined skill were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
