Edmond J. Quinn Silver Star citation

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the SILVER STAR MEDAL to

CAPTAIN EDMOND J. QUINN, USMCR.,

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

“For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while in charge of the 81-mm. Mortar Platoons of the First and Third Battalions, First Marine Division, in combat against enemy Japanese forces on Cape Gloucester, New Britain, from December 26 to 30, 1943. Accompanying the assault troops, Captain Quinn continually exposed himself to enemy attack in order to give supporting fire to our forces and, by his tireless efforts in keeping his communications intact and his continuous observation and skillful direction of mortar fire on hostile positions, contributed in a large measure to the speedy reduction of Japanese defenses during the assault on the hostile airfield. Captain Quinn’s brilliant leadership and extreme bravery were an inspiration to all under his command and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”

For the president,

/s/ James Forrestal
