Today’s sports section begins on page 14. Today, Joe DiMaggio faces Chicago right hander Eddie Smith (8-10), the pitcher who started The Streak back on May 15 and on June 19. In DiMaggio’s third appearance against Smith he goes 2-for-4, extending baseball’s record hitting streak to 55 games. Joe reaches first on Luke Appling’s error, then singles, draws an intentional walk, and doubles.
