Luftwaffe chief Hermann Göring is pictured with Oberst Werner Mölders on page two. Mölders recently became the first pilot in World War II to surpass 100 aerial victories. The caption states that he was recently awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords, having been personally awarded the medal by Adolf Hitler in the Wolf’s Lair (Rastenberg, Poland) on July 3. Mölders is the second-ever recipient of the award… Page five gives a first-hand account of the capture of Otto Kretschmer, Hitler’s “Wolf of the Atlantic.” Kretschmer’s U-99 sunk 44 vessels and one warship before the dreaded U-boat was sunk in March…

Page seven announces that the future school for colored aviation cadets has been dedicated at Tuskegee, Ala… William Bader, son of a German colonel and whose brother also fights for the Germans, has been drafted into the U.S. Army (see page 20)… Sports section begins on page 24…

St. Louis Browns first baseman George McQuinn is usually known for his fielding, but yesterday he hit for the cycle in the first game of a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox — the only time a batter accomplishes the feat this season. His first hit is a home run that clears the right field roof and completely out of the stadium. Dizzy Dean was in the booth, having just begun his broadcasting career calling games for Falstaff Brewing Co. on KWK…
