Famed sportswriter Grantland Rice will be working for Civil Defense (see page 10). During college, Rice played football and baseball for Vanderbilt. His grandfather was a major in the Confederate Army during the Civil War… Rice enlisted in the 115th Field Artillery during the First World War and earned a commission.
