Winston Churchill’s nephew, a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, has gone missing (see page eight). Pilot Officer Romilly was a navigator with No. 58 Squadron and failed to return after a raid on Hamburg on Nov. 30, 1941. Searches are unable to find any traces of the plane or crew in the North Sea… John C. Garand, inventor of the revolutionary M1 Garand rifle, is pictured on page nine receiving an engineering award… George Fielding Eliot column on page 15…

Sports section begins on page 58, which features an illustration of Virginia All-American back “Bullet Bill” Dudley. He is the first overall pick of the upcoming 1942 NFL Draft and is able to squeeze in a season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he becomes the league’s top rusher, before enlisting in the Army Air Force. He plays football while he is in the service and flies in two combat mission before the war ends. Dudley is the only football player ever to earn most valuable player titles in college, the military, and the NFL. He is named to both the College and NFL Halls of Fame…
