The battleship USS Alabama will launch next month at Norfolk Navy Yard (see page two)… Col. Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr. is pictured on page five swearing in new Marine second lieutenants at Quantico, Va. Shepherd earned the Army’s Distinguished Service Cross and the Navy Cross for valor at Belleau Wood during the first world war and will soon take command of the 9th Marines.
