Page ten features a story about American tanks serving with the British in North Africa. In fact, some of the tanks are crewed with volunteers from 1st Armored Division; a squadron of three tanks is led by Maj. (and U.S. Senator) Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.

Lodge will soon return to the Senate when President Roosevelt requires congressmen serving in the Armed Forces to choose one job or another. In 1944 he resigns from the Senate and returns to active duty — the first U.S. senator to do so since the Civil War, seeing combat in Italy and France. Lodge resumes his career in politics, becoming the Ambassador to West Germany and later South Vietnam…

On page 16, Lt. Gen. George H. Brett has decorated several officers for valor, including Lt. A.T. House, Jr., who used his wing to cut a Japanese Zero fighter targeting his squadron commander in half (House’s guns were jammed). House, who originally served as an enlisted Marine prior to World War II, finishes the war with five aerial victories, making him an ace… Sports section begins on page 19
