On page two: Maj. James Roosevelt — eldest son of Pres. Roosevelt — has been hospitalized. Roosevelt was second-in-command of the 2nd Raider Battalion during their raid on Makin Island, where he earned the Navy Cross. Roosevelt will be named commander of the 4th Raiders this fall. All Roosevelt brothers are serving in the Armed Forces and their status is updated at the end of the newspaper article…

Yesterday the Navy announced that the aircraft carrier USS Wasp‘s was sunk in September. Accounts of the flattop’s destruction are found on several pages in today’s paper… Sports section begins on page 20, and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Mort Cooper has been named National League MVP.
