Gen. Douglas MacArthur awarded Col. Neel E. Kearby with the Medal of Honor yesterday (see page two). Kearby is now assigned to Fifth Air Force Fighter Command and currently has 21 aerial victories to his name, closing in on Eddie Rickenbacker’s record of 26 kills during World War I. Kearby earned his medal during a reconnaissance mission over Wewak when he led an attack on a formation of Japanese fighters, despite the fact that his Thunderbolt pilots had already completed their mission and were short on fuel.
