1st Lt. Robert M. “Butcher Bob” Hanson, who notched his 25th aerial victory a week ago in the Southwest Pacific, has been reported as missing. This marks the second time Hanson has disappeared; the first time he was shot down over Bougainville and rescued after spending six hours in a life raft…

Also on the front page: Admiral Chester Nimitz has announced that we have seized three more islands in the Kwajalein Atoll, and President Roosevelt established the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in combat… On page three, General Douglas MacArthur’s name was added to the Illinois presidential primary as a Republican candidate, even though the general hasn’t indicated a willingness to be a political figure and has a war to run…
