Good news: American naval and air forces have struck the Japanese garrison on Paramushiro Island. Bad news: manpower needs are to the point that men that had been discharged due to wounds received in combat are being drafted again. Even worse news is that in many cases they go back in as privates… Two ships have launched in the last two days — the flattop USS Ticonderoga (front page) and the light cruiser USS Atlanta (pictured on page four). Atlanta launched yesterday and is the second so-named ship of the war. The first Atlanta (CL-51) was commissioned on Christmas Eve 1941 and sunk nearly two years later off Guadalcanal…
